A hidden gem within the City of London, this sweetly run restaurant is just a stone’s throw from Smithfield Market, tucked down a narrow lane inside a period house which was once home to the poet Sir John Betjeman. It’s now under the watchful eye of Chef Tom Hurst and wine merchants Joe and Ben, who operate the tightly packed space as part bar, part restaurant, but all full of atmosphere. The cooking is pared-back and ingredient-led, with fine produce like Dorset crab and Somerset lamb given the space to shine. The wine list, as you’d expect, is extensive and full of interesting choices.
